Brave New World

Well.... Mark started child care today! I only let him stay for 2 hours then this mother just needed to bring him back home again!

I arrived at 8.30 this morning thinking I better stay with him for the morning, but I carried him into the room, put him down, and he took off and completely ignored me! So much for feeling needed. So I headed off feeling a bit low to go shopping for an hour. I came back at about 10am, he had just had some morning tea and still having a great time. Was his nap time though and he was way to excited in the place to go to sleep, so I brought him home. He fell asleep as soon as he got in the car and is still sleeping as we speak.

So..... I think he likes it, but I must say as a mother I still have reservations. The room is so busy with all these kids, and Mark doesn't usually cry when he is ready to go to sleep, he just slows down. So I can see him just not really getting any naps when at daycare. But we will wait to see what happens. They also do feeds differently to me - usually give a bottle before bed not after etc.. This may mess him up a fair bit between what happens at home and then there. Oh well his routine all around will probably just change completely.

Tomorrow I will drop him off and leave him till lunch time, then bring him home - see how that goes.

Will keep you posted!

Ruth says: I was thinking lots about you yesterday wondering how it will go. That is good to hear he enjoyed it. You should let them know what Mark's routine is re drinking. My day care follows the parents routine not what the day care wants especially at this young age. Of course having lunch, morning tea etc is their routine at day care - can't really expect them to change that but drinking should be the way the child wants it. Matthew always used to get his bottle after he woke up from sleeping as that is what he was used to. Other kids there used to get them before sleeping just depending on their routine. Good luck with today.
Be strong and keep him there a long day next week. It is amazing how the kids do what they should at day care re sleeping etc.
